Branan says. “There’s just something about it, when I see a white guy with an acoustic guitar get on stage, I’m like: ‘Oh frick, I’m about to hear about this guy’s feelings.’ I try to subvert that at every chance.”
Cory Branan is playing Chelseas September 10th 9pm in BR (joe arnette and elsah support)
the Beatnik in nola september 11th 9pm. (erin miley support)
If you're a fan of alt country/folk/americana, this guy is becoming a house hold name with his new album. he's extremely entertaining live, telling stories with his self depreciating humor.
no hit wonder track
the only one track
all I got and gone track

This is what CMT would sound like if Tom Waits and John Prine had staged a hostile takeover of the network back in the 90's.

A Cory Branan live show is an experience. The man who says he’s never played a song the same way twice gravitates towards the dramatic on stage. He punishes guitar strings, stops and starts mid-song, stomps the stage, teeters between melody and strained growls. Plus, he’s a storyteller, both in his songs and between them. Anyone who’s seen Branan a few times has heard the yarn he spins about eating fried chicken and dunking a basketball over 12-year-olds on an 8-foot goal. But it never ceases to entertain. Branan is a showman, through and through.

Branan has slowly but steadily proven that he's capable of winning over the hearts and minds of Americana's surest devotees with music that deserves true devotion. Given the chance, "The No-Hit Wonder" could become a wonder of another sort.
quote:
The album includes contributions from Jason Isbell, Caitlin Rose, Tim Easton and Craig Finn and Steve Selvidge of the Hold Steady.

Nah, will be the first time. I always try to make it a point to see these guys at the smaller venues before they blow up...

You won't be disappointed. I brought some folks out to the BR show at the Manship the last time he came through BR and they all loved his show.

Was a great show...super intimate atmosphere. He didn't play super long (had to finish by 11pm due to noise ordinance).
He's definitely comfortable on stage, played a lot of tracks off No-Hit Wonder along with some older stuff.
Thanks again JW for the +1
Now if only I was in Oxford tonight for Branan opening for Isbell!
