I have a meeting with the University of Miami at the end of this week. I am looking to be staying there the night on Thursday.

Should I fly and stay in the Fort Lauderdale area? Stay down in South Beach? I will be flying out of Miami's airport since it is so close to the U but am flexible on flying in wherever.

I am looking for a good place that I can walk to restaurants and all. I will be doing this alone so a good place to watch the football games etc. would be nice.

Suggestions?

Stay in the Grove.

Flannigans for wings, lots of college bars, restaurants. Lokal for a burger and craft beer there

I always fly into FLL but I fly out of there too.

I have my bachelor party there in November.

You think its advisable to go out in Coconut Grove say Friday Night and SoBe on Saturday?

Just wondering if that is better than fist pump south beach relentlessly.

Is that Coconut Grove? I am very inexperienced with the South Florida area.

Any hotel suggestion? Price really isn't an issue.

Fly into FLL as it's probably cheaper than MIA.

+1 to the Flanigans suggestion. It's a good lunch spot. Imagine hooters without the girls and better food.

SoBe (south beach) is cool but I wouldn't want to stay there unless my plan was to party every night. If you do go out, club LIV is the premier Miami night club, but cover when I went on a friday was $60.

Brickell is where all the hotties/UM chicks go out. S Miami ave (In Brickell) is another big bar area with tons of condos. Blue Martini on south miami gets pretty crowded and there are other places to drink on the same street.

The U is in Coral Gables. The Gables has tons of great places to eat. I recommend Graziano's for dinner. Argentine steak house with a great wine selection and the food is just stellar. Fritz and Franz is a german restaurant with good food and better beer. Miracle Mile is a street in the Gables with lots to do. Check it out.

Coconut Grove isn't a bad place to stay at all. That would probably be your best bet as it's right in-between UM and Brickell. Also, Miami has Uber

Thanks for all those suggestions. It is always a pain to figure out where to stay when I go to places like South Florida. There are way too many options.

There's a Sonesta near the grove. I think they actually call it Sonesta Coconut Grove

Brickell is a good suggestion but IMO would be awkward solo. Folks will be dressed nicer. Grove for more casual.

Sure thing. The Grove and Brickell are the two places I would stay if I were coming into town. They're just close to everything.

Joe's Stone Crabs is awesome. It's closed on Monday's and Tuesdays during their summer schedule, dinner only.

Yeah, it normally is an awkward thing on my trips. I am always by myself. Normally try to find a place that has a bar and some good food and be able to watch some sports. If only the Braves were playing down there this week...

Also, for lunch try Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza. I'm obsessed with that place. Menu is short so you can't go wrong. They have a bar area too so you can still sit alone and feel normal.

Flanigan's is my fav eat by myself place there.

LINK

They have some TVs, not great but just fine. The wings are forking outstanding.

OleMoney, what's the name of the pizza joint that gives free samples while you are in line near UM? That's a pretty cool place too for a quick late night hangover preventer.

Yea, Flanigans is awesome. Their hot wings are my go to - that and the full rack of ribs.

I'm pretty sure it's Casola's Pizza. You can just walk up and grab a slice to try.

Yep, Casola's is it. Great for late night.

Couldn't remember the name 'cause I've never been there when not enjoying a few coldies.

I only remembered it because I was there like a month ago after a night of drinking. Pretty sure that's how they make all their cash
