OT historians: The British Empire

I like history, but I'm sure we have actual history majors in here. My question, if Scotland breaks from the UK, is this the last major piece of the once power (some call it the greatest in history) that is known as the UK? "The empire on which the sun never sets"

There's still Wales and Northern Ireland.

The British Empire has been dead for all intents and purposes since The late 1940's. She's still a strong world power, but her actual Empire began to fall away at the end of WWI and the process was complete by the end of the 40's.

They still have Wales. So they got that going for them.

Yeah, I understand the effect WW2 had in the country, and maybe I worded the OP wrong, but where in the decline does the breakup of Scotland fit? They have been so tied through out history, and I never saw them splitting.
ETA:
At one time, there was over 700 million people under British rule. Amazing.

William Wallace will be happy.

Scotland isn't leaving. Quebec has been wanting to leave Canada for a long time now and that's not happening either.

There's nothing the English can do if the Scots want to leave.

Well that's not entirely correct. Scotland was for centuries free and actually an enemy of England. They fought several wars against various English kings and only became part of the UK about 70 years before we broke away from the British and established the USA. There is a history of a lot of bad blood there.

Major piece of the remaining UK?
Northern Island, Wales, Scotland and England make up the United Kingdom.
Of the "non-England" nations, Scotland is the largest and more populous.
But no, it wouldn't be the last "major piece" as you still do have Wales and Northern Ireland.
If those left you would no longer even have a UK.

Said the South in 1860.

It's all about virtual empires now. Political-economic-cultural influence without the headache and expense of ruling far flung territories.

The Commonwealth still includes Australia and Canada and South Africa.

The technical name of the U.K. is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" - and "Great Britain" means England (with Wales) and Scotland, and "Ireland" means, currently, Northern Ireland.
Wales was actually incorporated into "England" in 1536. The Kingdoms of England and Scotland were "united" in 1707, Ireland was added in 1801, and then most of Ireland seceded in 1922.
The larger Commenwealth of Nations (formerly, the British Commonwealth) has 53 nations, of which QEII is the monarch of 16.
The questions will be: If Scotland completely leaves the Kingdom and Commonwealth, will they re-establish their own monarchy?
Or will they be very much like their Celtic/Gaelic cousins, Ireland and be a completely sovereign, democratic state on the island of Great Britain, north of England?

Watch Braveheart again. just kidding, they don't have the will to supress a revoloution but they do have the might if they were to chose to use it.

Although it is a little dated and voluminous, it is incredibly well researched and written - A History of the English-Speaking Peoples by Winston Churchill (much of it written before the Second World War, I might add - while out of office, Churchill made a living writing nonfiction books) is about the best source I can think of to bring one up to speed on much of this history from Caesar's invasion in 55 BC until the beginning of WWI.
The 4-volume set is definitive, but hard to find in reasonable condition at a reasonable price. Be warned there are lots of single volume abridgements that are heavily cut down.
I have the 4 volumes in both paperback and hardcover.

They're making a run at Florida with tax sheltered businesses FWIW. That conversion rate
