And to think some folks still think we would be better off if we overthrew the Assad regime.
quote:

Steven Sotloff, the American journalist murdered by Islamic State militants last week, was sold to the terrorist organization by supposedly moderate rebels in Syria, a family spokesman told CNN on Monday night.

"For the first time, we can say Steven was sold at the border. Steven's name was on a list that he had been responsible for the bombing of a hospital," Barak Barfi said on "Anderson Cooper 360." "This was false, activists spread his name around."

"We believe that these so-called moderate rebels that people want our administration to support, one of them sold him probably for something between $25,000 and $50,000 to ISIS, and that was the reason he was captured," Barfi told Cooper.

Barfi credited "sources on the ground" for providing the information, including details of the capture.

As I said often when the Syrian crisis was in the news, there is no "good" side in Syria.

Assad is the good side, these people need to be tortured, they need chemical weapons used on them , Assad and all his followers are facing a victory or annihilation.

This does not compute. If isis was so bad assed they would have just taken Sotloff by force. The "moderate" rebels would have just given him over for fear of what isis would do to them.

Actually Obama looking good now with his red line thing. People are fricking idiots thinking he should have acted. he should take his time, and not rush things. this is very fluid and complicated situation.

You and a tiny minority hold this view.

Most agree that Obama looked like a totally weak and indecisive amateur during that incident.

No he's not. I agree that we should have avoided intervention in the Syrian civil war, which is why Obama never should made the "red line" comments to begin with. It was idiotic and amateurish at the time he made them, particularly if he wasn't 100% willing to back them up. He wanted to look tough and like he had a strong position so he made irresponsible public commitments.

Same here. I said we had no business being there, and that eventually the weapons/aid we were sending to the 'rebels' would be used against us. Not sure if we sent knives, but they have certainly gotten hold of some weapons and have declared war on the U. S.

I love how they were "moderate rebels" when we gave them weapons to attack syria, and now they are "ISIL" and we're supposed to hate them.

This is what the government has been doing for years if anyone has been paying attention.

It's not smart for the leader of the free world to issue idle threats that he doesn't plan to keep. Our enimies see it as a sign of weakness and will exploit it.
