It's hard. Im having trouble getting them to bite, yet the people I fish with seem to have no problems. They even pick up my poles and get them to bite, so it isn't a rigging issue. Any tips?

Buy spot remover. Throw spoon in garbage. Profit.

Any other tips? I have reeled it slow, reeled it fast, Held the rod tip high, medium, low, jerked it, reeled straight...nothing.

I can only catch them on in-line spinners and topwater.

That's strange. My red fishing buddy prefers the redfish magic over the tried and true gold spoon, but I do just as good on the gold spoon as he does on the spinner bait, and I for sure don't think there's much of a technique to it. Just throw and reel. The main reason I use them is because he's generally in the front of the boat, I'm in the back, and I can throw one a country mile/in front of him lol.

How many times has this happened? Are you sure you're not just on a slump/this is pure coincidence?

I've been fishing in Delacroix 6 times now and I'm 0/6 on spoons. it's to the point now that when I limit out I go exclusively to the spoon so that I can finally get out of the rut. No dice so far

Stick with in-lines and topwaters. You're making this too easy.

Seriously though I've never caught a fish on a spoon either, I've only fished with them a handful of times though so I'm unsure if it's a technique issue or a fish issue. I've even caught fish backed to back on top waters, switched to a spoon to try, no luck, swapped right back to topwater and caught fish.

Best redfisherman I ever went with said,

"You gotta burn arse with dem spoons"

Translation- reel fast. Was his technique and it worked.

Yeah. Just stick to that. Although I can catch with spoons (I'm a grown arse man) they are my least favorite lure to fish with.

ETA: Correction, Bourg reminded me of my least favorite lure to fish with...crankbaits.

Sounds like I have a lot of growing up to do then. I'm not even 30 yet.

I also have trouble catching reds on spoons and I've tried a lot. I catch a couple here and there. I hate spoons almost as much as I hate crank baits

Sell the spoons to your buddies and catch the fish the way you know how.

To be honest - I have the same problem as you. So....I don't own any.

0/6 with spoons? That's like being on your third wife. The problem is you.

Capt Mike Hakala has the finest spoons around.....have used them all around Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana & Texas and have caught plenty of redfish in both clear and off colored water.......skinny to deep.

Plenty of times reeling fast paid off.

You'll figure it out. Are you fishing weedless?

I don't like weedless spoons much but I'll fish them if I've got to. Hands down, no contest, my favorite spoon is a 1/3 oz. Little Cleo. See them here: LINK

Take the advice earlier too. In clear water, reel fast. If the water is dirty, stick with something just as flashy that makes more noise, like an inline Colorado.
