Some men just want to watch the world burn, and Scotland becoming independent is certainly a significant world event.

The vote is on September 18th. Ready your popcorn.

I know nothing about this issue and read a decent summary in WSJ or Barrons or something about how this young generation of Scots are very proud of their heritage and how Scotland is considerably more liberal than England. They want more government benefits than England's system provides.

Does that sound about right? Would they still be protected by England's military or would they have to form their own armed forces, etc?

Seems a bit tacky to split apart IMO - what little I know about it I want what's best for England and that is to remain whole.

Has no shot to pass.

This would create a new fully socialistic nation, but I'm all for self-determination. Screw England and their legacy of exploitative imperialism.

i understand why they would want to do that, but scotland would be best served keeping its ties to UK.

Yes is now leading the polls. Westminster shite itself and has today moved to bribery as their new strategy.

One of the reasons why Scotland is wanting to leave the UK is because they think the national health system will start charging people 10 pounds Stirling to visit a doctor.

So out of date but I predicted that Yugoslavia would blow up (No biggie) But my point was that as the world becomes more and more interdependent, smaller groups will be alienated from the dominating culture. Quebec was less than 1% of voting for independence also. add to this the Flemish and Walloons.

Cool thanks.

I think this is probably a mistake. Unless there is some type of oppression going on, they are probably better not breaking off.

That said, they are a viable country with a clear separate community and history; not the worst thing if they break off.
