OK so last week I was going to Commanders for my 40th birthday, and before we went I checked out their wine list and made a list of some bottles I was interested in. So we went, and while the meal was OK (not one of my better meals there), there were some bottles I didn't get to try so I decided to take a trip out to Martin's in Metairie to see if they had any of them there. Well, not only did they have some of them, they had pretty much ALL of them, even the rare ones. Now I'm talking more recent years, 2010-present, but still. Wouldn't be surprised if this was where Commanders was getting some of their wines from. Was nice to be able to buy bottles for 1/3 of what they would've cost me at Commanders.

Should have finished your shopping with a slice of cake.

You would probably be correct.
Martin's has their own distribution company. I think it's called Wines Unlimited.
I don't know the details, but I'm pretty sure they are the only wine store that is allowed to do this. Not sure why.

I was able to pick up some beers that were a hell of a lot cheap than what Dat Dog wanted.

In essence, old man Martin got both a wholesaler and retailer license (which is no longer allowed) decades ago. He was "grandfathered" in when the law changed.

Thanks. I thought it was something like that.
Now cedric gets to run the empire while drinking most days at the job. I envy him.

This is the correct answer. I think, federally speaking, there is a 3 tier system post prohibition for distribution. Each tier should not own partnership in another tier that purchases from said previous level. It's been discussed by people I know before who thought about filing for both and if refused the right, turning around and fighting the case using this instance. It's most definitely not fair and should either be allowed or not allowed in my mind, but c'est la vie. There most definitely should not be something that is "illegal" having special "privleges" due to grandfathering of laws.

I just learned they keep dog treats behind the counter of the Magazine store. I'll be doing more business with them now.

I love those layer cake slices....every bit as tasty as high end bakery cakes for $4/slice.
