I often wonder how functional these are (gTLDs). I understand that Google scours URL construction to keep search results relevant for the user - that should be a plus. One definite downside is to get everybody to remember what your domain is, since we all cut our teeth on .com and occasionally .net. But then again with the advent of SEO, is that so important today? I also notice they're more expensive. Hoping someone here could share their experience of using one of the "new fangle" domain extensions... Thanks in advance...

I'd say it's very important. Despite the proliferation of TLDs I don't recall going to one outside of .com .org .net .info and .biz I'd be willing to bet that if you advertised your website as "talent.agency", the average person is going to stick ".com" on the end of it. For the most part all of the additional TLDs have been a money grab for registrars rather than useful to consumers.

If you are looking at these other TLDs because your preferred name already has an established .com/.net, I'd say come up with a new name. If you have a useful site, a short and easy to remember name like Yahoo.com or Google.com is probably better than BestBatonRoguePlumber.repair
