Has the OT ever discussed 'the call of the void?'
Posted by weagle99 on 9/7/14 at 7:53 pm21
L’appel du vide - the thought to jump off the ledge you are standing on; wondering what would happen if you drove your car into another car or person; it is the thought of "I could kill someone so easily right now" when holding a knife, hammer, or what have you.

Everyday on the way to work:

Very dark thoughts on this fine Sunday evening there buddy.
well i didn;t know it had a name. I've had the feeling forever, but it wasn't the idea of hurting someone. One of my earliest memories is of me standing near the edge of a mountain/cliff and wanting to jump. For that reason I don't go near edge of anything because i have a burning desire to fricking jump. I always have the desire to ramp my car into the wall or a ditch, pretty much everything you said.

It's common enough to have a name? That's kind of scary.

Used to think about it a good bit when I couldn't find my purpose in any facet of my life. Once you find something to live for that you enjoy, you quit thinking about shite like that.
I sometimes get really nervous on a bridge and feel like jerking the steering wheel. I start sweating and grip the wheel very hard as I try my damnedest to think of something a lot more mundane. I never knew there was a name for it. It is a freaky sensation and very unexplainable.

I get this, too. Especially steep, tall bridges.

If I kill myself, I don't have to go in tomorrow morning.
Just happened again.

To this day, I don't know if this really happened or if I dreamed it. But when I was really little, like 5 or so, my mom took me and my brother downtown for something. We were walking back to the car, waiting to cross the street and my mom was holding both of our hands. I had this urge to run across the street, even though it was super busy and it was about a 6 lane street. I ripped away and ran across, narrowly missing being hit by a few different cars. I've never even asked if it actually happened because it kind of freaks me out to even think about it.
