Thinking of making a trip in Oct/Nov with a buddy of mine. Just for a weekend. Been there a couple times when I was younger, but I've never actually fished the lake.

TIA

fishing there sucks. its a pretty place though. they are supposed to be dropping the level of the lake so it may get better by then.

What about Indian Creek? Any better?

ETA: I've heard conflicting reports on Chicot. Some claim the fishing is great, some say it's bad. I was hoping fall may be a decent time of year.

The fishing can be great because there are some absolute monsters in there, but don't expect to catch a lot of numbers.

Well, I got plenty of fish in the freezer. Don't need to catch a lot. Would be nice to land a couple big ones though.

Might only get one bite all day but will probably be a good one. They are dropping it 3 feet I believe so be careful. Should make it easier to fish.

Thanks. I'll be in the yak, so not too worried about shallow water.

Figured I could pitch a jig around the cypress trees. Any tips?

It's been a while since I have been out there but we used to catch them on black blue brush hogs mostly during the summer though.

I could always try Hackney's advice. Found this article on LA sportsman. This is from '09, but I imagine it may still prove effective.

It's strange deal. They get on the edge of the grass in about 13 feet, but not everywhere in the lake. Went today. None. Should start after this front.

chicot is a great place to go camping. however, to bass fish, you'd better be pretty good. it's a tough place to "catch". it's beautiful and you'd swear that every time you throw your lure, you'd get a hit.

now....if you want to go and catch a shite load of bream, you will have no trouble.

indian creek is a much better place to go and catch numbers.

but, if you like the challenge, go to chicot.
