This reminds me a lot of the 2010 to 2011 defenses

In 2010, we ranked in the top 5 defenses after the season, went 11-5 and lost on the road in the playoffs to Seattle. In 2011, everyone was expecting that stout defense to stick around, and it was a super hyped offense that carried the team with a mediocre defense (#24) that got lit up at times.

Hopefully we'll have the same end result for the regular season as in 2011, but it is frustrating to watch this defense right now.

Today was on the offense as were the key losses in 2010 and 2011.

There is no excuse for the Saints with the talent they have to score only 21 points in 40+ minutes (plus overtime) in a dome against a below average defense like the Falcons. It's unacceptable. This offense has the talent top be top 5 of all time - especially with how tightly the referees call pass coverage these days.

WAT!?!?!?
SMH

The offense put up 34 points today, that should win every game you play, even with a mediocre D.
No excuse for the defense to give up 37. This is on the defense, there is no getting around that.

What? How can you say that the offense lost the game? We scored 34 friggin points!

Nobody tackled. Lewis looked like the only tackler on the team, and even he missed one or two. Linebackers looked like they were doing yoga out of the field, and the defensive line were a group of turn-styles. I'm not sure what version of football you watch, maybe Canadian?

It was very similar to 2011, which is a huge disappointment b/c this time I really thought we had better players. I was worried about CB and I knew we didn't have great LBs, but I thought the combination of what is supposed to be a great D line and a couple of all-pro type safeties along with Rob Ryan's mad genius game planning would make this a great defense. If it turns out that our D continues to play like 2011 (or, God forbid, 2012), then it's going to be really hard to watch the games. As many games as we won in 2011, I could never get comfortable b/c I knew our D was capable of blowing any lead. And if I have to watch idiotic defensive schemes like today's that give the game away, then I don't know how I will be able to make it through the season.
