Teuhema impressed and a question about Garrett

#58 was always around the ball when he was in there, and got good pressure on the QB. He has a knack for getting around or through the blocker.
Also, is Garrett hurt? I figured he'd be making some noise by now, or at least getting mopup duty.

Going to assume that Garrett will redshirt this season if he didn't play last night.

Teuhema is going to be special. Great acceleration through blocks. He will compliment our defense very well.

Garrett expressed some brief frustration on Twitter last night. But with Chavis' Weltersession at Mike and Beckwith clearly coming on strong as his backup, the thought would be-at least from my point of view-that if we RS Garrett, he's a RS Frosh Five Star Mike with a Senior and Junior Mike ahead of him. He would have a year to work in and then a two year run where he was the BMOC at the marquee position in Chavis' D.
To an 18 year old thoroughbred like Garrett, this type of long-term roster management-while sensible to us-doesn't do anything for his longing to go fill the A-Gap and destroy a tailback. It's understandable that he wants to play.
But I also heard he had his shoulder worked on before he got to campus and that kept him from being right at 100% when he got here, and maybe juuuust after he got here (though I can't confirm that last part from a timeline standpoint).
Garrett has a bright future and if you sat him down I'm sure he's a bright kid and would agree. But kids wanna play, especially in this program where we sell it differently than we may be currently explaining.
It's what's best, though. For him and for LSU, in my opinion.

He's going to be a fantastic football player for us. The Mike spot takes some time to gain Chief's trust to the point that you can impact the depth chart. Garrett will be fine.

beckwith didn't get many snaps as a freshman either. Not many linebackers get to play as true freshman.

Teuhema looked good. Anybody know something on Clark's injury?
I think G explained Garrett's situation well, and the injury may still be bothering him. Everyone wants to play.

the rumbling was that Garrett didn't adjust to the heat well during camp, may have cut short his opportunities as well

nothing explains Welter still being on the field

Beckwith also was at DE as a freshman.
But yeah it's hard to see snaps early on at the MLB spot. Agree with all of that GFunk.

garrett should be pissed off. we won by 55 points. he doesn't need a redshirt. no one worth a shite stays for 5 years. what if welter get injured. you need a back up plan. you don't normally redshirt 5* players.

Garrett was having problems adjusting to the heat after moving down here from up north. I don't think his body is physically ready

Teuhema looked a lot bigger than I thought he would be. I was very impressed with him

Thats true. Minter even took a while to get up to full speed. People forget he wasn't even a full-time starter in 2011, and it wasn't because Hatcher was incredible. He blew up when he finally put it all together.
