I've been playing over a year. I'm good. Give me a half hour and I'll do a fresh build and get you anywhere. I've landed on every planet and every moon. I can build a rover and deliver it anywhere. Two rovers? I can do that.

I can't rendezvous. Every time I try I give up. I've watched Scott Manley vids. Didn't help.

Someone flip the switch in my brain. I'm a first round KSP draft pick and I can't do it.

I opened that game one time, tried to build a rocket, couldn't even get one of the parts to be in line with the grid to attach it to the rest of the build. Closed the game and played something else. Games with seemingly steep learning/skill curves are just something I can't tackle with a clean conscience. But it is intriguing enough to want to try again. Maybe.

I am 40+ and have been playing video games since Atari. KSP is the greatest game ever if it hits you just right.

As far as docking, I know docking is a bitch. I have to rendezvous first and I've never been able to. I play stock only and don't use mechjeb. It has always bugged the hell out of me that I can do so much in this game and this one thing just humiliates me.

What I do is I get an orbit around the same body the target object I'm trying to reach is orbiting. I get either slightly further or closer orbit to the body. Then I speed up time until I get a close encounter.

What I do then is I make sure I am viewing the target velocity on my nav ball. Then I sped towards or speed away from the target until I get to no speed between me and the target at all.

Then I burn towards it at a slow speed. I speed up time.

In the last few km before intercepting I burn opposite of how I've been burning to slow my velocity to a few km. Then speed up time until within a half a km. Then I flip the rocket and burn to cancel all velocity.

Then I flip again back to the target and aim for center of mass and get a good position using RCS.

The best practice for this, IMO is a premade mission to capture an asteroid. All you have to do is get on it's orbit path and chase it from behind and grab it. That mission taught me everything I needed to know for rendezvous.
