Good news for Obama regarding Obamacare

President Barack Obama has not had a good couple of weeks. His foreign policy is going badly, his legislative agenda is stalled, and his party looks likely to lose the Senate. He's entering the traditional lame-duck years of a presidency and further accomplishments appear increasingly remote.
But less than 10 months after major media outlets were hosting debates with headlines like "Is the Affordable Care Act Beyond Repair?", Obama's signature accomplishment is succeeding beyond all reasonable expectation.
A new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation finds that in seven major cities that have released data on 2015 premiums, the price of the benchmark Obamacare plan?— the second-cheapest silver plan, which the federal government uses to calculate subsidies — ?is falling.
Yes, falling.

Ok, two things stand out...
They looked at only 7 cities and they looked at only one plan
NY and Tenn as a whole were asked for 18% increases in premiums for 2015 by the insurers.

And we all know Ezra Klein is an objective observer.
I will let you know when my family's premium falls $2500.

I have no doubt that some plan's prices are cheaper, however, those cost savings are just being pushed over to the other plans.
Like I just pointed out, I am sure NYC one one of the studies 7 major cities, however the entire state of NY was asked for 18% increases in 2015 premiums. They are just shifting the costs.

What was $300, became $1000.
Now it's $900. It's falling! Success!

quote:Translated into English this means rationing since you get less for what they are willing to pay. The providers will refuse to accept lower payment rates, and some in need will go without. Narrower networks is a reflection of providers unwilling to provide services for lower payments. And tighter management of subscribers' use of health care is simply refusing to cover some procedures or services that employer based plans routinely cover.
The Congressional Budget Office explains that Obamacare's premiums are cheaper-than-expected because its insurance features "lower payment rates for providers, narrower networks of providers, and tighter management of their subscribers' use of health care than employment-based plans do."

Bingo!
Same "math" that allows Obama to talk about how he has lowered deficits when he STILL has not pulled a single FY deficit lower than the HIGHEST one of GWB's term.

The silver plan premiums in seven cities are falling while companies that offer insurance to their employees premiums are rising by double digits. Yippee!

I hate to pile on, but I was expecting my healthcare costs to go down, instead they have risen by 17%, and there are so many conflicting reports on the net change in insured / uninsured it's hard to know what to believe except for that we've barely increased the total % of the population that is insured.
Working in the industry, it would appear that the previously uninsured are only signing up once they enter into the hospital (purely anectodal, but that's what it looks like from the data; you can analyze it for yourselves by reading the management discussion & analysis for publicly held healthcare providers).
The true impact and net additions and churn on health insurance is done somewhere in May of 2015, we'll end up with a net neutral change. Probably good longer term but that assumes the poor that have been using the ER and are newly signed up continue to pay premiums. That's a pretty big IF.

Why would any rational person pay for insurance ahead of time when Obamacare allows you to get it when you need it?

Yep, it's like lower the price of one item in a grocery store while increasing the price of another. More smoke and mirrors from the liberal progressive Dems and their compliant media.

Just looking at Q1 results, during the open enrollment period. That said, you can get Medicaid at any time.

As to the Kaiser Family Foundation report, the names Cynthia Cox, Larry Levitt, Gary Claxton, Rosa Ma, and Robin Duddy-Tenbrunsel are listed as co-authors.
Yes, that Berkely Free Clinic.
A Clinton guy, you don't say.
A Clinton guy from Georgetown, more non-partisanship working on the report.
More from Berkeley, another bastion of even-handedness
Another Dem hack who worked for the Obama campaign!
Call me crazy but I'm going to file this one in the partisan hack study category.

Not entirely true... There are only certain circumstances that qualify for enrollment at any point.
Loss of Job, Marriage, Birth of Child, etc...
For anyone else, they have to wait until Nov 15 open enrollment
