I'm trying to further my accounting career by taking the CPA, and I was wondering what sort of organizations are out there for young accountants.

I think there is a young CPA organization in BR. Not sure if it is a chapter of a Louisiana organization or not. Also, I believe you can join the LCPA if you are not a CPA.

AICPA is the main one, and there are several that dovetail off of it. Each state has their own as well. Most don't require you to be a CPA to be a member.

Both the AICPA and the Society of Louisiana CPAs have student memberships that are free if you are in school.
If you are out of school but have not yet passed the exam, AICPA has a reduced cost membership of $55/yr, and LCPA has a free membership.
I would definetly do the LCPA membership as it is free, you can apply on their website.
Also, if you are in Baton Rouge, I know the Baton Rouge chapter of the LCPA has a Young Member group that does happy hours, etc. Once you get your LCPA membership in, give them a call and they can get you in touch with that group.

Avoid the AICPA, it's basically just a gigantic spam machine. I'd look at local or state level organizations.
