Best New Years trip within a short day's drive from BR?

My wife, as well as another couple, are looking for the best places within a short day's drive (1-7 hrs) from BR to go on a New Years trip for three or so days.
Of course, there's New Orleans, but I was thinking something that I haven't been to a thousand times.
Any ideas?

We went to Dallas one year for New Years and it was awesome!
Went to "deep ellum"(sp?) the place where all the bars and night clubs are. For 12:00 we were at The Green Room (sp?) and they played the LSU pregame song at 12:00 a.m. Was so much fun.

last new years i went out on my girlfriends boat in orange beach and watched the fireworks from the wharf and florabama and all the other places.... also piihb

Fairgrounds in NOLA to watch the ponies. Will do this every year from now on. Great way to watch the games and have some fun.

Bring a bottle of champagne and watch fireworks on the levee while the orchestra plays near the aquarium.
Heavy police presence, so we've never had any problems
