Is this movie pretty solid? I absolutely loved the book, but I don't want to be let down if the movie is only marginal.

I don't remember it being that good.
The Firm was probably the best Grisham book turned into a movie. The Client was decent as well.

I love watching the movie. However that has more to do with how entertaining I find Matthew McConaughey and Samuel L. Jackson's over the top performances. Samuel L. goes all out screaming angry black man.
It is also filled with strange Southern stereotypes. For example, everyone is always sweating, even indoors. Apparently we don't have air conditioning in the South.
It's entertaining, but it is questionable how good it is overall.

I think it's very entertaining.
Good call on the sweating though...everyone is always covered. Must be July.

The book was set in May-July in the Summer of 1978 I believe

I love it,
but as a black guy, it tends to make me angry!

It's okay, you spelled it with an "a".

Donald Sutherland is awesome as the "retired" drunk lawyer.

I, for one, have no problem with the overuse of sweating in ATTK.

Or any vehicles that were made in the last 20 years.

To be fair, as someone who was born and raised in Louisiana and has since moved to a desert climate, it feels like you're always sweating when you go there.

Yeah it's worth a watch. Samuel L. Jackson is pretty good.

Now imagine he's white.

It thought it was very good. Samuel L. Jackson was terrific.
The Firm was disappointing for me because the filmmakers totally re-wrote the ending.

It really has not aged well and I find the performances now to be on par with what you see in a ABC Family made for television film.
