To get Fox8?

I live off of Greco Rd in Hammond and I need an antenna strong enough to pick up Fox44 out of B.R.

Lol. He's in Hammond.

Look, you'll need an old-school big antenna. Put it in your attic, point it at the transmitters and be done with it. Get one that has a 100 mile range.
None of those cool, tiny, antennas will work.

What was that about?

I just put one in my attic yesterday, Hammond is a long way from the transmitters in BR.

Well, I was trying to save you some work.

I tried one of those small antennas and it picked up like a 1/2 channel.

Put one of the big old-time antennas up and now I'm getting like 14 channels. Radio Shack had one for like $100.

Unless you have foil insulation in your attic, it will work well.

I am 35 miles from the stations and the Monoprice antenna works fine. I catch 34 channels. It's amplified. No need for a large outdoor antenna, IMO.

Not sure which specific one, but you will probably want an outdoor antenna for your roof for the longest range. I recently attached one to an existing DirecTV dish that had been disconnected. Since the coax was still wired through the house, all I had to do was plug the antenna into the coax.

I have an antenna in the attic thru connected to our main TV (only HD in the house). I still pay for basic cable (only $10/month on top of internet), but once the price goes up, I will drop that and just keep internet.

If I split the signal to my antenna in the attic will it degrade the signal? I have an amplifier on the TV end, can I just buy another amplifier and use the same antenna?

Make your own Grey-Hoverman antenna for under $20 in around 30 minutes.

I had all materials on hand. Works great.

I'd read the reviews carefully.

IMO, if you are 30+ miles from a transmitter you need a big one.

Those smaller ones may be OK b/c they are amplified, but I wouldn't bet on them.

Are you going outside? That will help a lot. Shingles, felt and plywood will degrade a signal when you put it in your attic.

You only need the UHF elements, which are the small part that was in a 'V'. The new HD broadcasts are on the frequencies in the UHF band. You gain (no pun) nothing with a enormous VHF antenna.

A powered winguard antenna is your best bet. This is a good one.

Good luck with getting FOX for the cake lady.

The overall size doesn't help with distance reception?

I tried one of new, smaller, expensive ones and it didn't do well.

I went to Radio Shack and bought this:

And it works great.

Of course size helps. What I am trying to say is that short section that looks like a sideways "v" is the UHF part. It's the only part working for you with today's HD broadcasts. The long part is basically doing nothing. You could buy the largest consumer UHF antenna out there, and it would be considerably smaller that that, maybe cheaper.

Well, that's just great. Where were you yesterday when I was in my attic?

I felt like, given my distance (32 miles +) and indoor attic mount, I needed some size. The RS antenna was $100.

Sure, we can see the action uninterrupted if we go out and buy an antenna.
