It can spread for awhile... Especially if you just got into it yesterday. If it is bad now, go to the doc and get a steroid shot and a med pack...

The rash is caused by the oils from the plant. If the oil is still on you, you're "contagious." If you showered once, you're good to go.

Your answer doesn't line up with the other 2 that said it isn't contagious

Can only spread if you still have the oils from the plant on your skin. Shower and you should be good. Can't be spread from the bumps or oozing from bumps.

it's only contagious until you wash the oil from the plant off. Once you've washed it off, it's not contagious, you just have to wait for your skins allergic reaction to subside.

But be careful of any clothing or other stuff that may have touched the plant, if there is still oil on them, you can get it again. Be sure to clean them too.

Take a shower with some dawn to get the oil off your skin.

Or, you know, regular bath soap.

It isn't contagious, but if there is any oil AT ALL left on your skin it will continue to spread on you and you can give it to others.

as others have stated, the oil from the poison ivy plant is a skin irritant. Thus, once you wash the oil from your skin, you no longer have poison ivy, but you do have a rash caused by the plant's oils. How extensive your rash or how long the rash last depends on the amount of exposure and your sensitivity.

So, poison ivy is not contagious if there is no longer the oil from the plant on you, however, just because you no longer have poison ivy, does not mean you are free from the rash caused by the poison ivy.
