Just bought this game today and am really surprised at how good it is. So many people were expecting this to be a failure but it is far and away better than The Sims 3 as far as I'm concerned.
Anyone else pick it up?

Give us some highlights. I don't really play the Sims, I just cheat for money, build houses and start over, so how's the building aspect/number of items?

Build mode received a complete overhaul in the new game. You push and pull your rooms to your specifications and if furniture is already placed, the game will rearrange them if you increase or decrease room sizes. For a base game there are a TON of new objects and the way to place them is much more precise than previous Sims installments.
Here's a good video talking about the new build/buy mode.

The great thing about 2 was the control. You could play by the rules and have fun accomplishing goals, but still create exactly what you wanted along the way. And you could do this without mods. I only played 3 for a little bit, and it seems they stripped that away, made you play their game more than create your own game, if that makes sense. Going from 2 to 3 was like they turned a PC game into a console game. The micro-gameplay was better but the macro-gameplay was worse.
Hopefully this one strikes a good balance. I'll probably get it on steam

That would be a miracle

Yeah, I was about to edit after actually looking for it. EA is so gay.

The way I would describe it is it's an improvement on The Sims 2 format. It seems like they went back to The Sims 2 format and decided to build on that instead of building on the format of The Sims 3. And they've done a great job with it. There are a lot of people who are pissed and hate it though because there's no "open world" like there was in The Sims 3.

That's basically what I do, so I'll need the pools to be added via DLC before I purchase this

Nobody has been talking about this game since the news of "Nopoolstoddlersgate" came out. I didn't even realize it dropped today until seeing this thread.

Same. I'm glad it's gone.

They didn't. That was a big controversy too. People were pissed but it doesn't seem like there was anything they were trying to hide.
LGR (a well known Sims reviewer) posted on Twitter that he has played it a little over 6 hours and really likes it. When some people saw him say that they were shocked because they thought he was going to rip on it.

Loss of open world is huge to me, loved that shite, the constant loading to go anywhere is annoying. The sims interactions with each other is definitely the brightest spot. Not sure if I like the new cartoony approach or not. That is not a big factor to me.
Robbaz had a good video yesterday comparing the two.

I probably won't get it. I will stick with 3. The graphics don't look any better.

That video was great.
"Sub-orbs. Sub-orbs. Suburbs."
"In Sims 3, I could drive my car to a neighbor, drink from his pool, and then fricking kill him. You can't do that anymore in Sims 4."

Robbaz's Sims 3 Redneck Brothers series is worth a watch if you enjoyed it. He has a Gabe sim later in the series with an entire Gabe room. He's pretty entertaining. Love his Kerbal videos too.

I'll probably never play The Sims, but I've watched every episode of Robbaz' Sims 3 videos and have laughed my arse off at most of them.
The best one was when he locked them all on the houseboat and made them eat until they were all 400+ lbs.

Okay, so I put in a little over 6 hours on it yesterday.
Open World- I still don't get what the big deal with not having it is. I guess I play the game a little bit differently then most people. I don't go to other peoples houses. Having to load a new plot isn't that bad to me, especially when the loading times are as short as they are in this game. I tend to stay around my house, and go to the other town places very occasionally. So, no big deal to me, but it's driving some people up the walls to not have this.
Not having cars and dishwashers is curious.
The social interactions aren't really what I thought it'd be like. I thought they'd be better. It's still an improvement over other installments. The new interactions are a blast. For instance when my guy is feeling confident, he gets new things to say and do to people like giving out a more effective pickup line.
The new skills and jobs are fun. No one sits outside your house honking anymore when it's time for you to go to work. Which is nice if you don't like nagging, but bad if you forget to go to work.
The building tool is improved, but I don't like the premade rooms selector. There's nothing wrong with it, I just think that inclusion is pretty lame.

Just watched his review. Think I'm gonna take his advice and wait. It looks good and all but it doesn't look $60 good. Not yet.
