Obama and Pericles

When Zach was 18 years old he did a paper at Centenary College on the Oratorical styles of the ancients. I was fascinated with Pericles. Because he was the closest person in history I could find to be a Benevolent Dictator.

How does one become a dictator and not be corrupted? One of his oratorical skills which Obama does not possess is Reverse Psychology.

Obama is getting criticism from many fronts. What is his reaction? "Uh, it's the republican's fault..it's faulty intelligence...uh, it's really bad golf lately."

Pericles was heavily criticized during his years as ruler of Athens. He addressed the crowd and said "I have failed in your eyes. I thus give up the crown. Let someone else rule."

The crowd went nuts. "No! No! Put it back on!"

So, let us fast forward to today. Let us suppose that Obama does a pre empt of all TV programming and says "I have failed. I tried my best. But things haven't gone well. So, I am abdicating my office and calling for a special election this Nov to include a Presidential election."

Would the public demand "No, No, we Love you Obama!" Or "No, No, Biden is worse". Or "No No, you pre empted the football game, you idiot?"
