MORGAN CITY, LA (WAFB) - The Morgan City Police have arrested a Plaquemine man after he allegedly attacked a suspect, who was allegedly attempting to drown a 16-year-old girl.

The incident happened in the Lake End Park area. Police say witnesses told them that 31-year-old Dusty Rineheart of Plaquemine struck 39-year-old Max Cordova of Morgan City, after seeing Cordova allegedly holding a juvenile's head beneath the surface of the water. Police say that witnesses saw Cordova trying to remove the top piece of the victim's bathing suit, but the victim managed to escape.

As Cordova was exiting the water, Rineheart stopped him and allegedly began striking Cordova. Police say Cordova required medical attention, and he was transported to the Teche Regional Hospital for treatment. Upon being released, Cordova was arrested and booked on charges of molestation of a juvenile and simple battery.

Rineheart was arrested and charged with 2nd degree battery. The victim was not injured in the incident.

Seems as though the incident ended and the plaquemine dude met the other guy when he was getting out the water. He didn't stop the guy

Might not be legal but easier to defend than just punching the guy for no reason. Probably doesn't matter either way.

Exactly. If anything they should thank him for helping subdue and detain this dude.

Not saying he didn't deserve it but makes sense. If the girl had already gotten away you can't just beat the frick out of the dude, legally speaking.

I mean, if breaks in and steals some shite from your house and then is running away down the street you can't just go outside and shoot the guy and expect no consequences.

I doubt the dude gets in much shite for it given the circumstances, but there are reasons for these laws.
