I've seen several people use it at they're tailgate, but obviously it's a little more complicated then plug in and play to use LSU's wifi.

Hope to do this at the tailgate next weekend. Can anyone here help me out?

Do you have access to the wireless internet out there? If you can't login via the built-In connection app, login with a laptop and bridge the wireless and Ethernet connections. Run Ethernet from the laptop to the AppleTV.

ETA: but if you're doing that, you might as well just run the laptop's display out to your tv.

Why not just pay for wifi hotspot feature on your phone or someone else's? An LTE iPhone should be sufficient to stream the game and your AppleTV can connect using it. It does present the issue of your phone being dedicated to that function all day.
