Wisky fans say that they ran a base defense on this play. In general, would LSU be better just going for it from a regular formation?

Also, why not punt protect with 2 RBs and a FB to make the D guard against the fake every time?

I think the player like doing fakes. It instills confidence, changes momentum, and is fun.

1.) All of our runningbacks play pretty big roles on our squad, probably don't shouldn't risk them in the punt game.

2.) runningbacks probably don't tackle very well, especially in the open field which is exactly what those up backs would be asked to do on a return

3.) the runningbacks who do not play a significant part in our offense are the walk on guys and the like, and probably just aren't the athletes that are a young 2nd or 3rd scholarship linebacker is at LSU

I called that play, and then called a play action TD right after. I was so close to being a genius

because you never want them to guard against the fake so that it is there when you need it...

For your first question, fourth and four, really you want to go for it from the regular offense with them knowing it is coming????

Did Beckwith's little fake move affect the outcome at all?

I would agree they were not surprised that we ran a fake. Still they did not know what kind of fake we'd run. But they had it defended fairly well...Beckwith just made the play with his inherint athleticism.

We punt right there, I don't think we win. It was a huge play.

Their base defense has a return man?

Hell, even I knew the fake punt was coming--not because I'm formations expert or anything, but from the simple fact that WE HAD TO TRY MAINTAINING THE POSSESSION--we had no other choice. I figured the Badgers had smelled it out too, it was so obvious. But the play was definitely the right one to call in that situation, plus it worked. So keep the muthafricka and use it!

In general I call BS on people who say the fake was telegraphed... simply not true in my opininion.

Now -- was the upback NOT being on the field until late -- part of the ruse or an actual player mistake?????

I for one was PO'd the guy was not on the field --- but then when the fake was run... it looked as if that may have actually been intentional to draw attention away from the play.

.... and as stated --- It worked and was a huge reason the momentum shifted to LSU -- so I'm sold --- no fake, no LSU win.

Miles and Peveto worked it to perfection.

Well the announcer called it before it happened, and Wisconsin saw it coming as well, so there is that

According to the film study thread, Miles later stated that the proper personnel weren't on the field. RS Freshman Moore runs onto the field late.

I mean, I was shitfaced and knew in that situation we really couldn't afford to give possession away.

I was sitting pretty close to the LSU bench. Miles tried to wave off the fake with 3 seconds on the play clock. He admitted that we didn't have the right personnel for that play. Hell, we barely got 11 men on the field...but all we needed was 3 yards and a little bit of Les Luck!
