Recent Opening QB Performances

I'm really not sure why there are still people on here who won't get behind Anthony Jennings given the fan reaction to a couple of other recent opening game performances by Tiger QB's.
In 2011 people were beyond excited with J. Lee's effort against Oregon; he went 10 for 22 with 98 yards and a TD.
This board was pumped about Mett's outing against TCU in 2013; he went 16 for 32 with 251 yards and a TD.
Saturday night, Jennings went 9 for 21 with 239 yards and 2 TD's.
I'd say his outing was comparable to what J. Lee and Mett accomplished in 2011 and 2013. The only difference I can think of is Jennings was making his second start ever. Mett and Lee had made 13 and 9 starts respectively prior to the games mentioned above.
Personally, I'm excited to see what Jennings does next.
Edited to add that Oregon was the team Lee opened against in 2011.

you must have missed the threads here after Oregon. I seem to remember most being kinda "meh"/ wait and see with him, and a few saying it was a bad game. and screenshots. lots of screenshots.

There were just as many who were pumped because of how great he "managed" the game.

I'm hopeful after Jennings' game.
I thought he really made some strides in crunch time against a good opponent.
He seemed to have a little mobility, enough to sell the option a couple times. He also showed an arm on a couple throws; not just the lofted ones, he had some ropes in there too.
His back was against the wall, we were getting beat pretty bad, and things weren't looking good. He was able to find Dural deep a couple of times (enough to convince me that the Arkansas pass was not just a fluke); and he then made a couple plays with Diarse.
Hell, he wasn't that far removed from a 300 yd game: the tight end drop was almost criminally bad, one of the screens to Fournette was hard but could have been caught, and the ball to Quinn was close. I think Quinn makes that catch later in the season.
This was not against a pushover.
On the other hand, I think some of the unrest is due to the lack of a running game for most of the game. We supposedly had the greatest running back of the past decade on campus, and he looked very ordinary yesterday.

Totally agree but that's not Jennings' fault. I think the kid played well. He certainly played better than he did against Iowa.

Jennings exceeded my expectations. His play in the second half was comparable to Mett's last year. The timing with the receivers was a thing of beauty - throw where Durall and Diarse will be. Won us the game.

Jennings will get better and more comfortable. He didn't make any bad decisions and with more creative play calling we will havea better offensive showing.

I was pumped to see Jennings extend passing plays with his feet. Those plays would have been sacks last year. Once we get that screen pass perfected...

One thing I do think Jennings can improve from yesterday's game is he tends to have a happy feet and sometimes decides to tuck and run too early. There was one play in yesterday's game where we were third and goal and was about 7-8 yards away from the goal line. UW was only blitzing three lineman and can be well handled by our O-line, instead of standing tall in the pocket and wait for the play to develop and go through his progression, Jennings instantly tuck the ball and starts to run right, and of course, run right into a UW linebacker. This shows a lack of patience and distrust on the protection, which is correctable after watching the film. Oh, also he needs to quit doing that spin move like right now, really bad habit.

Given the play calling Jennings did all he could do. I am baffled by Miles' insistence on a running QB, yet he refuses to run a offense that allows a running QB to be successful. What good is an athletic QB in a two TE I formation? By the way the running game picked up when we spread the field and ran the ball out of a 3 WR set, yet as soon as we took the lead and tried to run the clock out, it was right back to two TE I formation.
If we are going to use a running QB, then put him in a position to be successful.
