I was never sure where this originated from, but why do some lefties believe this attack on the Kochs is politically relevant? It may rally the troops, but it's the troops that are already sold.

quote:

It is a hoot to watch the political left, always prowling for new boogeymen to hate for fundraising purposes, as it hustles to chase down fresh victims. Take, for instance, its ginned-up war on the conservative Koch brothers. It is even more fun, despite the left's herculean efforts, when Alaskans stare blankly and ask: Who?

quote:

Incumbent U.S. Sen. Mark Begich's handlers have been spending money by the truckload to somehow link GOP Senate nominee Dan Sullivan to the billionaire Koch brothers -- Charles, 78, and David, 74 -- and the closure of the Flint Hills resources refinery in North Pole.

quote:

This time, the accusations against the brothers are part of a $165,000 TV ad campaign in Fairbanks underwritten by a national firefighters union group, the IAFF FIREPAC. "These billionaire Koch brothers are killing Alaskan jobs, shuttin' down our refinery," Fairbanks firefighter Shayne Wescott says in the ad, and Sullivan, by golly, is not doing enough to stop them.

The problem? The ruse ain't working.

quote:

Despite the continued spending, the ADN story by Nathaniel Herz reports, “Three area politicians said most residents have only passing knowledge of the Kochs and attribute the refinery's closure to other factors.” Herz quotes Democratic state Rep. Scott Kawasaki saying, “I don't think that the general population really knows, in Fairbanks, who the Koch brothers are from anybody else. I wouldn't know what they look like if they were in the same room as me.”

That, apparently, is the case across the nation. The National Journal in March carried the headline: “Can Democrats' Koch Attacks Work If Nobody Knows Who They Are?” It said 52 percent of George Washington University Battleground Poll respondents said they had never heard of the brothers, with 11 percent more saying they had no opinion of them.

quote:

The venom directed at the Kochs -- or their money -- springs from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's calculated, cynical and embarrassing war on them and Americans For Prosperity, founded in 2004 by David Koch. Reid's rhetoric -- accusing the brothers of trying to “buy” America or being “un-American” -- approaches bombastic McCarthyism. The AFP's rather Libertarian aims are to back candidates who support free markets, entrepreneurship, lower taxes and limited government -- anathema to the Reids of this world.

It seems like many liberals are reinforcing the idea that they are out of touch with the mainstream. In reality, few people care about the Koch Bros.

Yep. Most people couldn't name them in a lineup. Gotta have a face to get pissed at.

They own Georgia Pacific, I think.

I have no idea how they look or if they are jerks. I honestly don't really care.

How do you think fireman in the other 49 (or 56) states feel, seeing their dues spent on a political race in Alaska?

Another stale tactic from the "progressive" party.
I still remember Richard Mellon Scaife being the imminent evil rich conservative.

Depends on whether they consider themselves firefighters first, or union men.

They probably have no idea how their union spends their money.

Yep. Yet groups are spending millions trying to demonize them to a public that really doesn't care..

The senate election, outside groups are pouring millions into the Dems campaign, mainly harping issues few in the State care about, or pandering to people who will vote D anyway.

Probably. I haven't heard his name come up during an election around here though. The Dem groups are spending millions trying to somehow tie the Republican to the Kochs, and no one cares.

I'm aware, but the Republicans aren't using him in the senate election like the Dems are doing the Kochs.

I can't imagine anyone basing a vote on the Koch Brothers.

Maybe it's more of an attack on their business interest. Trying to hurt them by smearing so business partners move away from them.

Part of it was a subsidiary bought a refinery in Ak that was later found to be polluted. Flint Hills decided to shut it down and fight to get the former owners to help with the environmental problem.

Would you like to go back to the Summer of 2012 and find the threads here telling us how demo nixing Bain Capitol won't work? How Obama was wasting money with attack ads.

Then 3 months late threads blaming the MSM for people's perception of Romney being a rich guy out of touch.

You guys will never learn.

And btw, if "demon using the Koch's doesn't work", why are you starting threads about it? The fact that every week we see threads like this tells me it's working... On you.

A hurt dog barks loudest.

You really are angry and bitter.

According to the linked article, less than 40% of people had any opinion at all on the Koch brothers. The only people who seem to care are Democrats. You people are wasting your money.

But, it creates a job for someone.
