According to MiLB.com, Montero was coaching first base when Baccala yelled at him to hustle off the field at the conclusion of the inning. A game official said the scout then ordered an ice cream sandwich and had it sent to Montero in the dugout.

Montero -- who made news for reporting to spring training 40 pounds overweight this season -- did not appreciate the gesture. He approached the stands with a baseball bat, screaming profanities, and threw the ice cream sandwich at Baccala.

And why is this news? College football started last night and tomorrow is the first Saturday. Who fricking cares? ESPN is worthless sometimes.

It deals with a major leaguer not allowed to play the rest of the season

I don't see why they would suspend him. I have more respect for him. The professional scout wasn't being professional. frick him. It'd be different if it was a fan

All those years in catholic school being asked what would Jesus do? And my answer was never even close to throw an ice cream sandwich.

Minor league coaching staffs have the manager, hitting coach, and pitching coach. Hitting coach typically gets 3rd base. Player not in the line up will get first. Mainly, just watches pick offs and picks up gear.

That scout was a dick. Scouts lucky he just threw it instead of cramming it down his throat.

Unprofessional? Yes
Hysterical? Absolutely, sending an ice cream sandwich to a fat, unproductive ball player who is basically just stealing money from the big league club.

I'm sure things like this used to happen all the time. The difference is that there was no 24 hour sports new programs digging for "stories" to fill air time

in fairness, the scout will also be facing discipline.

They were both wrong. If the scout were in the dugout, I'd probably support montero a bit more here but if he's in the stands, I'd assume this all happened with fans right there.

But yes I do believe the scout should face a harsher penalty.
