Any good sources for parts besides ebay?
Has anyone converted to new parts, like Shimano nexus hubs, etc...?

My cousin restores old bikes... I could ask him for you but that's so much effort on my part.

Good point... I talk to him on FB sometimes but I haven't actually seen him in person since 1997. I'll wait until he's standing in front of me to ask... shouldn't be more than 10-20 years I'd imagine. Any day now.

I have a couple of old Schwinn road bikes. One is ridable but could use a little paint. The other one probably needs new wheels, tires, etc. before it's up and running

Spent the better part of six months restoring an 86 model, worst mistake I ever made. Cost me a job, a marriage and an otherwise optimistic outlook on life. Do not attempt this, you'll lose everything.

I've seen this exact story play out a thousand times, always ends in heartbreak.

Next the OPer will be wanting to join a bike gang and having to share his old lady with the rest of the gang in their spandex shorts and helmets......

It is truly a sorry tale, oft repeated here.

Give this thought wide berth, son. Don't open that door.

Meh.
