WSJ: College football grid of shame

The vertical axis measures shame. This is trickier to quantify, of course, but there is data to help the cause.
We decided the thin line between admirable and embarrassing with a weighted calculation of every team's academic performance, NCAA violation and probationary record, attendance figures, off-season arrests, total funding it takes from the university or state and amount that student fees subsidize the athletic department.

Bama has had way more embarrassing stuff as of late than FSU.
All time, I don't know.
ETA: Nevermind, thought it was taking fans into account.

If fans were counted, Bama would be on a separate graph

All Louisiana schools admirable

University of Louisiana is most admirable but who's keeping track?

How are South Carolina and Georgia considered more of a powerhouse than LSU?
Posted on 8/28/14 at 12:48 pm to hendersonshands
Louisiana is real close to being a powerhouse school.

Read the fine print

I don't understand how UCLA, Georgia, Baylor, USCe, and Oregon are considered more "Powerhouse" than LSU.
I'm trying to think of a criteria where they would be, but. . . I've got nothing.
ETA: Already asked.

Lucky for USC that this graph came out this week instead of next or else they would be sliding a little further down the "scumbags" side of the scale.

Just how teams are projected to finish

I was waiting for us to be at the far right and far bottom.
Figured it might have been exponential.

No wonder we lost to GSU.

The horizontal axis assesses on-field strength for this upcoming season. We took the preseason ratings of all 128 major-college teams from several media outlets and predictive computer models, then averaged them together to smooth out the slight outliers. The better the team, the farther they are on the right.

They really used "powerhouse" in a confusing way then.
Posted on 8/28/14 at 12:57 pm to hendersonshands
This graph is impossible. LSU has the most players arrested, duh.
