I'm planning on making the switch to a mechanical pencil from your plain ole number 2's. I'm looking for something with a little weight, comfortable to write with, durable, and 0.5mm. It will mostly be used for writing and occasionally math. As of right now I'm considering the Graph Gear 1000 and the Rotring 600. Any suggestions?

Well I was going to recommend one but it's not good for the occasional math. Oh wellz. Good luck.

I own many mechanical pencils and this is my favorite.

My only knock is the rubber barrel can occassionally start moving but a couple drops of super glue fixes that.

Zebra M-301 - it's the mechanical pencil version of their wonderful F-301 pen.

I keep them stocked everywhere - at the office, in my computer bag, etc.

Pentel P205/7/9. Relatively pricey but my favorite by far. Components feel sturdy with no frills or soft grips.

The most knowledgeable person to ask such questions would be the clerk at the nearest dollar general store.

I use a Pentel PS535. It has a sliding sleeve that works pretty well. It's good stuff.

Those are awesome. Just a plain .9mm yellow pentel. I know you said you wanted .5, but the .9 writes better. In my humble opinion, of course.
