We finally have an answer as to why New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith attempted 22 three pointers in a game last season. In his own words, he's "on pace to be one of the best shooters the game had ever seen."

Smith made his bold declaration on Instagram.

To his credit, Smith is a pretty accurate three-point shooter. Among all players who attempted over 100 threes last season, Smith ranked 26th in three-point percentage at 39.4, which is made all the more impressive given that he took 6.5 per game. In comparison, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard attempted 6.8 per contest and sunk 39.4 percent of his tries.

But all-time?

JR being JR.

Obviously no one on here could possibly argue with GOAT Smith, right?

His days in Denver where he was the spark plug coming off the bench was stuff of legend.

He's easily one of the most exciting players in the NBA.

He's one of the best "streaky" shooters I've ever seen. Not necessarily a guy that can consistently start off poorly and work his way into a groove, but when he's on early he's incredible. He's got some of the best range in the league.

I hate when people ignore stone cold fricking facts to make a bullshite point, and I hate it even more when players do it in reference to themselves.

Dee Millner did it recently, as did James Harden. Now JR Smith thinks he's one of the best shooters ever when he's streaky at best.

Where's all the people who believe that he has to think this way if he wants to be a true competitor?

JR Smith is the best. And every time I see a thread, it just reminds me to go watch the video that never gets old.

i remember watching JR Smith at the McDonalds All American came when he was coming out of HS. He was committed to UNC but he comes out and just drains like every single shot he took all weekend. Then he was like, yeah, i'm going straight to the league.
