How is Gold Game selected

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how the Gold Game is selected? I had though it was the first conference home game. But a buddy of mine said that is wrong. Any help is appreciated. See ya'll in Houston.

Totally disagree. Have always liked the mixture of purple, gold, & white in the stadium; especially in these days of "black out" mania. Goes with the whole gumbo of humanity vibe. Also like having the choice of which color to wear.
