Anyone have any baits they recommend for this area ? Or a tips in general. Thinking about giving it a try since it's so close. With football season coming it puts a damper on my fishing. I never fresh water fish, but I've heard stories of reds and specks begin caught in the bayou.

Used to catch Cichlids in there, but since the gate in the dam is now open to the lake (I think) who knows what you will catch.

time was... when I was a kid in the 70s and into the early 80s..Fishing was incredible there.. bass, bream, catfish, occasional drum, red or speck and giant gar in the middle of the summer..
In fact in the early 80s white hybrids stripers were and easy catch if you had a pirogue or canoe.. then the water quality changed dramatically over the next two decades..
actually I had a friend who was part of a study UNO was doing there and he saw some kids playing on a steep sloped bank and their momma was yelling to get away from the bank cuz they might fall in and drown.. he said to me..
they might dissolve before they drown...
it could be a bigger jewel of urban fishing than city park was... but.. well you know what the problem is..

Yep, that's what my dad and his friends told me about it.
In he 70's or 80s was when they closed the culvert and just forgot abt it.
In high school I had a friend who used to pull huge crabs out of there all the time.

Used to be able to make a crazy turn on lakeshore where lovers lane shot out behind Ronnie's house. It put you right at the mouth of the bayou. Sandy bottom about 2 and a half foot deep. Used to wade all the time. Beware of the rich folk that apparently have no regards for leash laws
