Deer stands and feeders setup help needed
Posted by Martini on 8/27/14 at 6:39 am00
Recently bought a piece of property that came with a couple stands and feeders already set up. The stands are pretty beat up and I plan on replacing them at some point. But now they are in a clear lane about 30 yards wide on one side at the tree line. Feeders are right at 100 yards just at the edge of the rear tree line. Creek 20 yards into the woods all hardwood.
I'm a wingshhoter and only started deer hunting a few years ago and always just had to climb into the stand, don't piss or fart and pull the trigger. Someone else always did the rest of the work.
So I need information on the feeder. It's set on a timer but when and how much to feed? What feed to use? Should it come out of the tree line and into the clear a few yards? Where to buy the feed? Slaughter Co Op is close so I'm assuming there. What does it cost? Etc...
The stand. I can move it to 150 yards. Shoud I ? If I want to buy a stand comfortable enough for two since I want to set this up mainly for kids to hunt what should I buy?
Any help is appreciated.
Stands are in separate lanes about 1/3 of a mile apart facing opposite.

Hard to find pricing without actually calling a dealer but I've seen 1300 mentioned for that one….which seems low to me.

Somewhere around 2k, There is a poster on here that builds them & he might cut an OBer a deal. Hell he ought to give me a refund for promoting them I've got 2 of them now & if I ever need another that'll be what I get. I can also verify they are very tight so wasp cannot get in them. Don't even think skitters can except when windows or door is opened. Very well insulated which is nice when you have a kid with ya or old like me

With woods between you and the creek deer will likely bypass the lane and cross in that wooded area. The feeder will help draw them out ( not a given).
Fill the feeder with corn ( 4 sacks should do). If you want to add to the appeal mix C'mere deer with the corn. I always set my feeders to go off only in the morning ( I like morning hunting and its guaranteed to be daylight when they come out).
The Co-op should have corn but Wal Mart usually has a good prices on 40# sacks
100 yards is good for distance from the stand. Especially if you will have kids shooting.
As far as type stands. If you wanted closed box the possibilities are endless. If you want a ladder stand you cant beat a Millenium 2 man. You can also buy a roof for them and close it in with felt or any fabric
Hope this helps

You might want to put out some rice bran as well. Deer in our area eat that stuff up like cocaine and coons don't mess with it.
I built a little tin cover over my bran pile to keep the rain off. A 50# bag will usually last about a week.
