What was the best novel you ever had to read for school?
Posted by HailHailtoMichigan! on 8/27/14 at 12:36 am00
I would go with Heart of Darkness, which I am well aware is a novella, but it is close enough.
My least favorite would be the Joy Luck Club.

Hmmm.
Gone With The Wind is up there. I actually liked Dracula a lot too.

Great Gatsby, still one of my favorite books

To Kill A Mockingbird
Sort of cliche, but I loved it. Nothing else I had to read came close.
ETA: Gatsby is a close second. Don't know how I forgot about that one.

Here are my rankings of the best I had to read:
1) Heart of Darkness
2) The Sound and the Fury (my favorite novel)- as many of you know, Faulkner is my hero. He is the greatest artist the south has ever produced.
3) Catcher in the Rye
4) East of Eden
Believe it or not, I never had to read Gatsby.

Lord of the Flies was good.
I really liked that book. I'm not an avid reader but that was a really good book.

Not the best I ever read, but the best I *had* to read was Ivan Denisovich.

quote:My sig quote is from this novel. Many literary critics call As I lay Dying the greatest southern novel of all time. While I don't agree, it is still a masterpiece.
