Who do you view as the biggest stars of all time??
Not necessarily best actors... But biggest draw and or star power?
For me: I'll give 6
Bogart/C. Grant
Hepburn (both)
J Wayne/ jimmy Stuart???
Tried to get the ladies in there...
Left out Brando, Cruise, Hanks, Eastwood... Newman..
Who you got?

As of 2013, the Top 3 highest grossing movie stars (adjusted for inflation) are as follows:
1. Harrison Ford ($7.4 billion)
2. Tom Hanks ($6.2 billion)
3. Eddie Murphy ($5.9 billion)

In terms of their films - Tom Hanks ($3.971.6 billion) , Eddie Murphy ($3,713.6 billion) and Harrison Ford ($3,424.6 billion) - in that order are the highest box office grossing actors of all-time FWIW...in terms of big for the modern era.
ETA: ahh, beat me to it.

History has been very kind to Jimmy Stewart. And I have to admit, his name was the first that popped into my head.
As far as females it would be a toss up between Audrey and Marilyn. Once again, history has been kind to them.
Tom Hanks has to be the answer for the last thirty years.

Ryan Gosling - Drive
Carey Mulligan - Drive
Bryan Cranston - Drive
In all seriousness, Jimmy Stewart is G.O.A.T. Wayne, Grant, Chaplin, Fonda, Bogart, Brando, Douglas, Eastwood, Deniro are just a few others I think of in that category.

John Wayne just has to be on there.
The man made 162 movies. Was the American ambassador to the world through films for half a decade.
Privately John Ford said of Wayne at the time: "He'll be the biggest star ever".
His status grew so large and legendary that when Japanese Emperor Hirohito visited the United States in 1975, he asked to meet John Wayne, the symbolic representation of his country's former enemy.
Wayne is the only actor to appear in every edition of the annual Harris Poll of Most Popular Film Actors, and the only actor to appear on the list after his death.
Was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Chaplin
Wayne
Hepburn
Not necessarily in that order. You can make a case for Stewart and Monroe.
Those were icons.
We don't really have icons anymore. Hanks and Cruise are pretty close, but still they don't have the power over culture like stars once did.

I started a similar thread a few months ago, the consensus was john Wayne and Marilyn Monroe were top 2. The 3rd is a toss up, but tom cruise has a legitimate argument.

Other than Wayne, who bridges the generations, I think you have to separate it into modern and premodern eras. There's more money now, even adjusted for inflation, so by that measureing stick, the modern actors are bigger. OTOH, even the biggest stars today don't have the cultural impact that a Gable, Bogard, or Garbo had. Movies were the dominant form of entertainment prior to and during WWII. It's much more fragmented now.

Tom Hanks
Harrison Ford
The Duke is so far ahead of any other actor as far as cultural impact/star power/icon status it's not even debatable.
