The advantage it has is that it gets the ball in the running backs hands quicker so he can see the hole and be an athlete and do his thing. Also, it allows the QB to block back side so no one can come from the back side and blow up the play.
The reasons I don't like it is that the defense immediately knows where the ball is going and can react and run the play down. Also, it's nearly impossible to run any sort of play action fake off of it to keep the defense honest. The defense seems to just be able to react immediately without any hesitation.
It just does not seem to be as effective as a normal stretch handoff or a normal lead because the defense has to pause a second to make sure it's not a fake. I don't have the time or the will to go back and chart the exact yardage relative to other runs, but I just wanted to share my opinion.

You are welcome for the knowledge rant.

I like that Hilliard and fournette are about 230 pounds running full speed when they hit the hole

Name one other team, pro or college, that you have seen run it?

Wasn't it a toss lead that Charles Scott scored on against Georgia a few years back?

And I'm not saying fire miles, silly. I'm just saying the play does not seem to be as effective relative to other run plays. And I broke down the Xs and Os why.

The point of the lead toss is intended to get the Linebacker out of position. He sees Toss & thinks Sweep and takes his line... hopefully his line is a step or two wide, in good position to take on a sweep... but not in good position to take on a downhill inside run..... I like it when it works. Lol. But yea, it can get old real quick.

No you didn't. Every play is scripted for a specific opponent, you didn't say a thing about why it would work against, say, Georgia but might not against Kent State.

It's probably our most successful running play, but since you don't like it. frick it. Let's remove it from the playbook.

Also, they do run play action off of it. Do a fake toss then turn it into a 3-5 step drop.

It has been a highly successful play for LSU since Crowton left.
