For watching sports it's all about the refresh rate.
Don't buy anything under 120 Hz

Get 5-10" bigger than whatever you've settled on

go to the bestbuy website and work down through their filters and you will come up with a pretty good list to choose from along with the prices...I find the customer reviews and ratings to be very helpful there as well...
once you settle on the tv that you want, you can either buy from there or try to find it cheaper somewhere else (I couldn't)....
fwiw, I would suggest at least 1080P, 120hz refresh rate in an LED tv.
You can save some dollars by not getting a smart tv, but I actually have used mine a number of times to stream sporting events from watchESPN....not necessary, but if you like that sort of thing, it is good...
I would not bother with 3D, as I haven't found much of a use for it at all...

Go To HHgreg or bestbuy and see what looks good , and remember that 4K is the thing now but doesn't have much content and 8K will be the thing in 2018...........

So I guess buying from Costco is bad idea?
Posted on 8/24/14 at 5:18 pm to Futures Bleak
Buying from Costco is a great idea, especially with their return policy and if you buy with Amex it doubles your warranty.
1. Don't waste money on a smart TV, as the TV manufactures are never going to update their apps for long.
2. 4K is a waste of money, besides blu ray no content is even in 1080p yet. Broadcast/cable TV will not even be 1080p in a long time.
3. Don't waste money on 3D unless you absolutely want it.
4. Plasma gives the best picture quality and viewing angles. However they are hard to find, because TV manufacturers are exiting the business. Downsides are possible burn in and glare in bright rooms.
4. 240hz is mostly marketing gimmick.
5. Careful research for any edge lit led. As they are often plagued with horrible back light uniformity

Minimum 120 hz and look for the highest black ratio you can find. Dont worry about "smart" since a roku or apple tv will do it.

Unless you absolutely need 3D, go to best buy and buy the LG 50ln5400 along with an apple tv(if you don't already have some sort of streaming device)
The ln5400 series have the absolute best picture you can find that isn't a smart or 3d tv.

Don't get hooked on crap that you don't want. I suggest a Plasma due to picture quality.
