Any old-timers remember Mark Moseley, only kicker to win NFL MVP ('82)?

I was just reading about him and was wondering if anyone who was watching the league in the early 80's could share their memories of him. Was the award deserved, or undeserved?

Deserved as he won a bunch of games with game ending kicks and was money that year.

Probably the greatest player in the history of Stephen F. Austin State University.

In a strike season. YES... I will never forget this dude before the WASH/DOLPHINS SB... He wanted to bet me... I gave him SIX points before the game watching Mosley warm up. Little did I know that that Riggins And the hogs would DOMINATE that Dolphins "D".

I made a presentation at Stephen F. Austin Univ. in Nacadoches, Tex. 20 years ago. The only pic of an athlete in the student union was that of Mark Moseley.

SFA reminded me a lot of NSU in Natchitoches, La. Very pine forested.

Dan Fouts finished 2nd in the voting. It was the closest that Fouts, who led the league in passing yards (averaging 320.3 per game) and touchdowns (17), would come to winning an MVP award.

And the next best candidate was rookie Marcus Allen - who led the league in rushing touchdowns and yards from scrimmage and was the best RB that year - for a team that also ran out to an 8-1 record.

The only other kicker to come close to winning MVP was - Raiders kicker/quarterback George Blanda who finished second in voting in 1970.

Wes Chandler should have been the MVP. It was the strike shortened season. He would have shattered several receiving records (at that time) if they played a 16-game schedule.

If that is the year I am thinking of Blanda did quite a bit more than just kick, was also the backup QB, had some comebacks QBing along with some gamewinning kicks, was actually damn near phenomenal.

You know, of course, that SFA and Northwestern State play annually for Chief Caddo, a seven foot tall wooden Indian?
