That the playoff will cheapen the regular season.

Just heard the committee head on ESPN radio

Is that such a bad thing though? The NFL has a playoff and the regular season doesn't mean as much in regards to having a shot at the playoffs and the NFL is the most popular sport in the country.

This should make the LSU fans who refer to Miles as a 2 loss coach every year. 2 losses won't automatically kill you.

Insinuated that hot teams at the end of season will get bump over teams with better overall seasons

Yeah a 4 team playoff will really cheapen a regular season consisting of almost 130 teams...

wait what?

To be fair, he said they would take into consideration things like "starting QB was out in week 3....once he came back, the team continued being dominant", etc.

I can certainly see that if a team beat FSU with Winston out with a concussion...but, FSU smashed everyone else before and after he came back, it is reasonable to factor that into whether they deserve to be in the playoff or not.

It is just a FACTOR...not a certainty.

That is all he was saying. Things like that...or a young team that won early (but not impressively) actually improving and getting dominant later would get more consideration than the previous "voters" once did.

As an example:

a team LIKE LSU ranked 13...suppose they win in an unimpressive way at first (not much climb) yet get consistently better and at the end of the year are a juggernaut. That team may get selected although they never got above 6 in the polls (I said LIKE LSU, because LSU winning SEC would certainly be in. Another conference's team that is similar may not)

That is bullshite. Part of the allure of a championship season is having it all come together. To completely erase that aspect would definitely cheapen the game. Plus, isn't the depth of a team important? If 1 guy goes down and your team turns to shite, then they don't deserve to be rewarded. Sounds like this may get worse if that is the sentiment of the PIC's.

Oh, boy.....he did NOT say it was a certainty.

It will be one of MANY factors. So, two teams that are similar in record or resume...it might be the deciding factor.

Relax

I'd hope people reserve callign something bullshite until it actually happens.

This fictional scenario that never occured is complete bullshite...sounds pretty dumb.

this new system will generate at least as much controversy as the BCS system did. no matter where you draw the line there will be teams just as worthy that will get left out. I predict we'll have an 8 team playoff within 2-4 years or at least the amount of time it will take to piss off teams in most of the regions. pissing off usc, ohio state, fsu and LSU in one year might do it but for sure MANY fanbases are going to be pissed pretty quick.

college football will have a 16 game schedule in the near future (at least for 2 teams). for some reason most people ignore the effect this will have on the athletes and continue to try to emulate basketball even though football is much more harmful to their bodies.

even though I think its a shame to do this I will most certainly tune in to watch. I think the nfl should be an option to younger athletes, at least a practice squad type thing. it's supposed to be a free country and I can see suits aimed at the nfl on the horizon after these guys play that many games.

If so, that's stupid. Basically another way for them to get in the team's that have always gotten media praise. "Yeah Ohio State lost their 2 out of conference games to start the year, but just look at what they are doing to the Big 10!!!"

How many years of them picking teams like USC and Texas that will get dominated by SEC teams in the playoff, until they finally start picking better teams?

The answer is never.

You are correct. Allowing a "committee" to determine who the 4 teams are will create controversy. There is no way they can be impartial. They do not want to see 2 SEC teams in the final again and to insure this, they opted out of using the BCS standings format.

Completely different animals. And I can watch the NFL on Sunday, I don't want college becoming NFL-Lite.

I wonder how they'll handle a team losing to a key rival in November with a trip to the conference championship on the line?

Yes. It's a terrible thing.

First of all, the nfl is set up to prompt parity and college football isn't.

Secondly, remember when the saints had a better season than the Seahawks and had to travel there for a playoff game? Or remember when the patriots won 11 games and missed the playoffs but the cardinals won 9 and made it?

Just because the nfl does it doesn't make it better

Why are you getting mad over something that hasn't even happened yet and is purely speculation?

1) I think they are going to value Conference Championships VERY highly. So, that losing team would have a tough hill to climb

However,

2) IF we are going to compare all other things (that year) being the same as now...I'd say that "losing team" deserves to be in the playoff and suspect they'd be selected
