I feel badly for those people. I'm seeing a lot of destruction out there on TV. I heard this was the biggest one since the one in 1989. I remember watching the World Series game when it hit.

After feeling the one we had in Virginia in 2011 which damaged the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral, among others, I could never live out in California.

We can joke about the "destruction" we endured with photos like this:

But the folks out west really got whacked. Prayers go out to them.

It was scary as hell. It woke me and I had no clue where I was. My wife is from CA so she woke up second later and remembered. I sobered up real quick. Lasted about 15 seconds I think. The house was shaking and almost felt like it was twisting. My wife and dog went back to sleep. I couldn't. Our power is out, but I know it's not out everywhere. Scary stuff.

What if it's just the beginning?

If its just the beginning I hope the western range (Diamond and Spring mountains) don't slide into the ocean.

ETA: and I'll be sure to drink all the good wine

This is incredible- just reported by @sfgate that fault line where #earthquake occurred had been dormant for 1.6 million years! @nbcbayarea

I felt it. Woke me up and I went running to my daughter's room to pick her up and run for it. It subsided but that was very strong.

Earthquakes are my top reasons for not wanting to move to California. Hippies are the second.

It woke me up, but wasn't strong at all where I am.

Earthquakes don't hit. They bump, roll, and grind.

But for real, I hope there aren't crazy effects from failures of structures or anything.
