Wes Welker accepts the violence, understands the danger. The Broncos receiver never considered retiring after suffering two concussions last season, but the fragility of the sport found him again Saturday night.

Welker, 33, left in the second quarter after suffering a concussion by taking a hit to the head from Houston Texans defensive back D.J. Swearinger. Concern grew from the moment Swearinger knocked Welker to the turf, a hit that drew a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness. Welker rose from the ground but walked toward the sideline as Broncos trainer Steve Antonopulos raced to his side.

Those concussions are starting to stack up. Sucks.

Peyton was flagged for taunting the dude that hit him. From the other thread.

Are you laughing because you disagree or because you're an a-hole?

Swearinger plays like they never changed the rules. Dude doesn't care. They fine him, they fine him...they suspend him, they suspend him. It's not going to change him because the only thing he does well is hit hard.

Hit him with his shoulder. Didn't look dirty to me.

I wonder how many shots to his head are because he instinctively drops to the ground to avoid a hit and the DB ends up hitting him in the head on his way down?

That's a no win situation IMO. The league has to protect it's players, but the DB is doing what he's taught by trying to put his shoulder in the WRs chest to jar the ball loose. It's not his fault Welker and other WRs are instinctively dropping to the ground to avoid the hit.

He did lead with this shoulder, but the flag was for hitting a defenseless receiver. Welker had caught the ball as he was going down and DJ hit him high as he was going to the ground.

Does it make a difference what he leads with? It's where the contact occurs that matters.

Oh, and in your case it's led vs lead.
