i don't know what any of this shite means but my computer has been going slow and frequently shutting off the past 2 days. I brought up task manager and saw COM Surrogate going out of control and constantly raising my disk utilization to 99%. this seems to be the cause. what is this and how do I fix it?

Windows 7 or 8? Go see what files it's accessing in Resource Monitor.

Example of mine, as I'm cloning a HDD at the moment.

windows 8. I just ran a complete system scan and Norton did find a virus and claimed it was resolved. it immediately started happening again after system scan ended. this is what happens

if I don't quickly start ending these tasks after a few minutes the computer turn off. can't figure out how to stop it. this happens multiple times throughout the day. I have to keep task manager open at all times because when it starts my computer becomes really slow and I can't open it
