The New Orleans Fire Department said crews were en route to a report of a possible plane crash at the Lakefront Airport.

The crash wasn't confirmed by the NOFD, but crews were en route to investigate the report.

Two independent witnesses tell WDSU it appears a plane went into the water just off the airport property.

The report came in about 4 p.m.LINK

According to another pilot, the plane was a Piper Cherokee that was coming in for a landing when it lost power. The down plane's pilots had no injuries and refused EMS treatment.

Per WWL: UPDATE: The plane apparently ran low on fuel and the pilot landed it in the lake and swam to shore, unharmed.
