It was getting old. You could tell the players were not excited about it anymore at all.

Did he stop doing it completely?

If so, it was a good idea. It's a counterproductive drill, there is more harm than can come from doing this drill than what it would improve.

I am in total agreement with you on this one. I mean how dare he not understand the entertainment value of these drills to the fans?
Les Miles needs to be more sensitive to the needs of the overweight out of shape athletically challenged fans who get a macho surge out of watching these drills.
Come on Les.

have you ever played a sport in your life? some things are to get there competitive juices flowing...its not about production and what not...yes they were taught things like hand placement and moving feet while doing this but essentially is to make some one compete against another and have there competitive nature strengthen

Its more about evaluations and critiquing technique than a phyiscally improving drill.

I disagree completely.

It's about growing a set.

I was ok with it, but certainly did not hold my breath waiting for the next installment of it. If it stays, whatev...If it goes, whatev...

I remember when it first started it was intense. It seemed since then they have moved the players doing the drill closer, thus decreasing the momentum. Wehn it first started they were a good 1.5-2 yds away from each other producing big hits.

This thing started many years ago as a competition of egos among position coaches. Pete Jenkins started this "back in the day".

It was stupid then and stupid now. Totally meaningless to pit one player against another probably not the same size.

Glad it is gone!

He should just change it up and add a different drill to keep the competition going. Something more position based. Maybe starting DB's against WR's...

It is obviously for team competition and not really used as a learning drill.

Any ideas?
