The agency sent $$$ to 85 people who didn't request them. But instead of demanding a return, they told workers not to contact them and see if anyone would be honest enough to return it.
Oh and they threatened workers with reprisal if they did. They even threatened the fraud investigator. (That's on the link inside the link)

I know someone in TX who got too much SNAP benefits. She got a demand letter. After a hearing, they agreed she could pay $25/month until paid (which she was able to pay ahead of time). (But I guess that meant Texas is too heartless toward the poors)

Here's the link from Watchdog.org, which was inside the other article linked:

Maybe "threat" isn't the right word but they were instructed not to do their duty. If I'm told not to do my job, I would have to expect that if I did, I would suffer the consequences.
There's a link to the email inside the article but it isn't working.

Particularly troubling to Petersen is the instruction in the email for IWD fraud investigators to ignore all benefits paid during the week ending March 8 because of the computer error.

(Unfortunately through work) I know someone who took part in FEMA fraud - they claimed a Beaumont address when they actually lived here in Houston. So they took FEMA for 20k and instead of throwing their a$$ in jail, they put them on probation with a $20/month restitution for 3 years! And it was the husband, wife and the husbands mother all complicit! Ridiculous!
