Is it really as wide open as the media says?

Romney. Buyer's remorse has set in.

At this point I think it's Rand but he will have to do it not only without support from the GOP machine, but from a concentrated effort to block him by that group.

The machine will push someone like Graham.

No one, especially if Amnesty is crammed through before 2016.

If Romney runs again he would have a great chance based on that alone (see: Jindal/Blanco). I just don't know if he is running again or not.

The born again Christians will vote for him this time?

They stayed home last time bc of the Mormon thing. Romney ran a stronger campaign than McCain, did much better in debates AND Obama was way more vulnerable yet Romney still got fewer votes than McCain.

The Media is right; it is wide open because no one knows what we'll be facing in two years. Hell...ISIS could set off pipe bombs in ten different WalMarts or poison a major water reservoir with a dirty bomb...and Col. Allen West could spring to the top.

Useless to even argue this stuff now.

Hard to say who will emerge by 2024.

IMHO this is the dirty little secret no one talks about. I truly believe had Romney been a Christian instead of a Morman he would be president right now.

How cute. You actually think there are going to be elections.

Why do people keep saying this? Romney got 1M more votes than McCain.

Rand Paul would get my vote. I think he is the only candidate that can steal some of the Indpt/Dem vote. Thats what it is going to take. The R candidate has to appeal to swing voters.

Maybe more votes were tallied after-the-fact (absentee, military, etc) but I remember the dialogue the morning after or a few mornings after the election being that Romney got fewer votes.

I'm pretty sure I've seen some decent analysis where he underperformed in heavy conservative areas; presumably conservative Christian areas.

Well that dialogue was wrong.

Unless something major changes, Rick Perry or Scott Walker because both are very successful governors whose policies have produced big results in their states.

Romney may have been right compared to Obama, but history is not on his side for another nomination. The last guy I can think of who got nominated for President right after losing was Adlai Stevenson in the 50s and that was because the Dems had no answer to Ike Eisenhower.

Rehash candidates in general also don't do well, as Nixon, Grover Cleveland, and Andrew Jackson are the major ones I can think of who lost an election and then won again down the road.

The Republicans don't have that issue, as they arguably have the best candidate field in recent history to choose from.

I'm sure his faith cost him some votes, but some Republicans weren't enthusiastic about him for other reasons. Some called him a moderate/RINO, etc.
