I've never been on a plane before and I'm pretty terrified, mainly because I feel a lack of control. I know the comparison to driving and what not, but I have a certain amount of control on the read that I don't in the air.

Anyways, I have a good shot at getting this job that will require at least 4 trips in a plane for training. I will not let my fear keep me from this job.

How did you get over your fear of flying? Are you still scared and you just deal with it?

This.

I have no fear of flying. I've even flown a bit myself.

Your general practitioner will gladly serve up 6-10 tabs of xanax for your trips.

I'm not crazy about it. I'll do it if it's the only practical way to get where I'm going.

The only way to get over the fear is fly more. You will eventually grow out of it. The plane bobbin' and weavin' no longer bothers you.

I'm much less scared of flying than I am of driving through New Orleans in work traffic.

Airports suck major arse though.

I'm very afraid. You can crash at any second.

No.

I've been scared once. Flying on one of the Embraire sp? Jets, landing into Memphis. There was a severe storm andd our wing dipped dangerously low on final. We may have been 80 feet off the ground and the pilots went back up.

There was a soldier on leave and he was saying he'd be damned if he was going to die that night in the USA after being shot at in Iraq for months.

I enjoy the take off and landing feeling. And like looking out the window.

Sorry that doesn't help at all

It's an illogical fear. Just admit it and leave it at that. Your "control" theory falls apart unless you're telling us you've never been on a bus or a passenger in a car (both far more dangerous)

It depends on your edginess level. A few drinks helps some people. Others think it will help but overdo it and end up sloppy drunk. If it's crippling, see a doctor.

Yup, I got over it when I went overseas for the first time as an adult. Before that, I had maybe 6 actual take off and landings between 16 and 24 years old.

On that overseas trip, I believe I had 9. Now I'm 95% at ease and fly pretty frequently now for the average civilian.
