Haven't seen this in Shreveport/Bossier for about 30 years...since the 'will work for food' bit of people sitting at intersections looking dejected.

Happened today at Airline Drive intersection near Starbucks. He was a white boy about 18-20. Looked healthy and not slovenly dressed.

Sign: Father sick. God Bless You. Picture of a cross.

He picked a great spot. Left turn at that intersection at that time takes about 2 minutes at the red light. It's the lowest priority turn signal.

OTOH, it's a horrible place for a conversation. As in "What's your story?" Traffic behind you would go nuts.

a. Should I have thrown a dollar out at him to get a blessing?

b. Was he a college student doing a sociology study?

c. Should I have yelled 'Get a job.?'

Thoughts?

Is this not what Medicaid is for?

He is also an adult so he should be working his arse off if he is trying to bring income for their home. Chances are it was just a ploy.

I've often wondered if it is indeed a sociology type project ... you never know. Typically if I've got a dollar or two handy and I'm stopped I'll give it ... call it enabling or whatever but I'm trying to do a good thing. If they're full of shite they'll pay for it at some point ... I don't want to be guilty of never helping and pay for that one day.

But if it's a study he should at least wear shabby clothes. He was dressed better than me. And why "My dad needs help"? Where is his mom? If he's there tomorrow I'm going to park at SB and ask him some questions.
