I'm in need of someone that can code and is familiar with the Magento platform for a website. Generous compensation. Previous work is a must. Does anyone know where to find someone locally?

Check out Oak and Tower. They'll be able to do what you need and will very likely throw in some creative/attractive suggestions. Fantastic people; they're highly recommended.

No..In a former life though, I dealt with retail software and websites...I've seen some little old ladies run circles with Magento, so "generous compensation" is interesting..
